Starburst
Software: Rhino, V-Ray, Adobe Photoshop
Fabrication: 3D printed molding, cement casting, copper and chipboard lasercutting

The Starburst is a sculptural lamp.
It's crafted with the goal of building upon principles of fabrication, materiality, and geometry by engaging with those very principles in unconventional and subversive ways.

Each of the lamp's "legs" is cast with cement--a material associated with harsh angularity--to create a form that finds a resolution between that angularity and a more rounded outer curvature.

The cement legs were cast quickly and efficiently in a single reusable, easy-assembly 3D printed mold.
Inspired by flashing elements that bridge the gaps between parts of a roof, the copper components were laser cut to securely screw into each of the Starburst's legs.
